Description | General Purpose
The Multimedia Communications Specialist will initiate, develop, and produce professional communications using a variety of media and assist with internal and external communications that support the Michigan City Area Schools and the MCAS Communications Department goals.
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities
- Develop, produce, and edit creative and engaging mission-driven written content, videos, photos, and graphics for district communication channels (website, social media, e-newsletters, and print media).
- Support the Communications department in the coordination, management, and coverage of district events and activities.
- Serve as a district journalist and story-teller, highlighting MCAS’s people, purpose, and progress with a focus on quality photography and video storytelling.
- Maintain and develop content for the district website, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and district policies and standards.
- Manage and monitor the district’s social media presence, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and emerging platforms.
- Provide training and support to staff responsible for school and department website and social media maintenance.
- Establish and maintain social media calendar for the district.
- Maintain the MCAS mobile app.
- Manage the creation and production of videos for marketing, promotion, and training, including concept/theme development, scriptwriting, production, and editing.
- Post and manage community/school-related fliers electronically
- Schedule and produce biweekly updates to video announcements on Channel 98.
- Assist with graphic design projects, including promotional flyers and forms.
- Maintain centralized district forms library.
- Maintain a historical archive of the district’s web and social media communications, photographs, and videos.
- Track social media metrics and data, using results to tailor content into the most effective approach for information sharing and marketing.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Educations and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in electronic media, journalism, communications, or related field
- Demonstrated skills in writing, editing, scripting, and interviewing
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Web management/visual communications and video production experience preferred
- Ability to detect, analyze, and solve technical problems
- Strong computer and web-based skills including familiarity with Adobe Suite (Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier) or similar software
- Eye for detail and strong proofreading skills
- Proven ability to handle multiple projects at one time
- Excellent customer service skills in working with students, families, staff, administrators, and the public
- Ability to maintain a high level of discretion and confidentiality regarding district and employee information
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Salary and Benefits
Payment Type: $45,000 per year, Grant Funded
