Education Required Level:  Bachelor’s Degree, minimum

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Adapts classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
  • Administers developmental testing programs, subject-specific assessments, etc. for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.
  • Administers, under supervision, first aid, and assistance to medically fragile children (e.g, toileting, diapering, etc.) for the purpose of providing appropriate care for children as assigned.
  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations; student's achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
  • Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals (e.g. behavioral, motor development and communication skills, academic needs, vocational abilities, etc.) for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
  • Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject-specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements.
  • Directs paraprofessionals, and student teachers, for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
  • Use relevant technology to support instruction
  • Conduct case conferences (initial and annual) as required
  • Assist in the development of other components of students' developmental, health, and social history as required
  • Provide in-service training and make recommendations for parents and support staff on special education issues
  • Complete DOE required annual assessments (i.e., IAM, ILEARN)
  • Create and implement Individual Education Programs for all students on your caseload
  • Attend and participate in special education staff meetings
  • Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs, and student organizations
  • Keep up to date with developments in the subject area, teaching resources, and methods, and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education
  • Valid Indiana Teacher License or Valid Out of State Teacher License
  • Relevant endorsement is required (eg Mild Disabilities and/or Intense, etc.)
