POSITION SUMMARY

This position serves as a bridge between students, parents, sending schools, instructors, employers, and community partners to ensure every student develops and maintains a meaningful career plan and has access to high quality career-connected learning experiences.

The counselor / coach will promote student success in LPCCTE programming by providing career readiness counseling and coaching services through one to one and group sessions, supporting student participation in work-based learning and on-the-job training, providing information and resources to help instructors provide quality career coaching in their programs, and organizing events designed to connect students with industry professionals. Additionally, the counselor / coach will support school counselors from each of LPCCTE's sending schools to increase awareness of student opportunities at LPCCTE and deliver individualized career coaching sessions and career discovery meetings aligned with Indiana's Career Coaching Framework.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensure LPCCTE students create and maintain viable, realistic career and academic plans aligned to their chosen pathway.
Utilize available data systems to track student success in CTE programming and progress made toward graduation requirements as required by IDOE.
Utilize available career coaching and work-based learning data systems to monitor completion of activities and participation in work-based learning. (Skyepack)
Support area schools in submitting accurate and complete CTE enrollment and completion data.
Acts as a liaison between LPCCTE, students, employers, parents, and CTE instructors.
Assist and provide information for students and instructors on colleges, trades schools, armed services and other career opportunities.
Coordinates student visits from sending schools and LPCCTE student ambassador visits to area schools for various events.
Disseminate information concerning all area CTE choices to all area high school counselors. Be able to schedule presentations explaining the CTE options available to students and to various community groups.
Develop career planning materials for use by teachers and other counselors.
Coordinate sending school attendance and maintain communication flow with sending school counselors concerning student successes and problems.
Serve as a career counseling resource for all La Porte County schools.
Participate in community activities that promote the activities of the area career and technical education center.
Organize events to connect students with industry professionals including career fairs, partnership days, work-based learning opportunities, and career discovery meetings.
Support instructors’ delivery of career coaching in their programs by sharing best practices and providing information on opportunities and current employment trends.
Help coordinate and track credential and dual credit attainment.
Attend professional development and provide leadership in the development of career coaching.
Coordinate school counselor immersion activities for the sending schools.
Coordinate communication between students, employers, parents, school counselors, and CTE instructors to ensure program success
Stay current with industry developments through professional development opportunities, publications, and professional organization participation
Actively participate in community activities that promote career and technical education
Build and maintain strategic relationships with area employers through networking events, site visits, job fairs, and direct outreach to ensure students have access to a broad range of industry experiences.
Represent LPCCTE at community employment events and coordinate employer visits to establish ongoing partnerships
All other reasonable duties assigned by the CTE Director including some student observations and supervision.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in school counseling and current IDOE Professional Educators License with a School Counseling Endorsement or a Bachelor’s degree with significant career coaching, higher education, or workforce development experience.
Ability to build strong relationships with students, colleagues, industry professionals, and community partners.
Strong communication skills with the ability to deliver dynamic presentations.
Proficient in computer applications and data management systems
Regular travel throughout La Porte County and some in-state and out of state travel to attend meetings, conferences, or professional development
Background clearance required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Previous career and technical education experience or a strong commitment to CTE as viable career pathway for students.
Knowledge of local business community and industry trends; experience working with compliance documentation and regulatory requirements; preference for candidates with an Indiana CTE teaching license and/or experience in similar position.
Valid driver's license, reliable transportation for regular travel throughout La Porte County, and criminal background clearance required. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required for networking events and community functions.
